New Year, New Trends

It’s hard to believe it is the start of a new decade. We have loved 2019, but it is time to start looking into 2020 and the design trends upon us. We have compiled a list of what we anticipate to be the biggest trends set for 2020 and commitment-phobes beware, because there is one common theme, and it’s ALL about COMMITMENT.

Classic Blue

Classic blue has always been a staple in the world of interiors for some time and in 2020 it is the Pantone Colour of the year. Whether used boldly to make a statement in the kitchen or entry foyer, or accented in soft upholstery and cushioning, classic blue is the effortless colour that works with everything.

Zellige Tiles

Although a classic that will never date, our love affair with the subway tile is fading as we move away from the rigid form to a more handmade approach. Although handmade tiles have been around for a long time they are now becoming more accessible and these hand crafted beauties provide subtle pattern, texture and movement adding a softness to your kitchen and bathroom.

Return of the bar

Bar carts and decanter sets have been on the menu for a few years now, but if you are serious about your cocktails a bar of your own is the new ‘must have’ item.  Whether it be a dedicated cabinet or the full deal where you can stand behind and be your best ‘Tom Cruise’, the trend is certainly here to stay… Perhaps the pool bar will be next (we can only hope!).

Rich Coloured Marble

We are seeing a strong trend forming, particularly prevalent in the world of bathrooms, and that is dramatic, rich and showy marbles. We aren’t talking about the cool-greys or traditional Calcuttas, we’re meaning punchy, intense stones in hues of burgundy, green and blue. These show-stopping marbles become the ‘hero’ feature of the space, best paired with a barely-there wall-tiles and rich timber.

Warm Neutrals

It’s time to move away from the cool greys that have dominated the past decade and warm up a little. Warm neutrals are the next trend think, limestone, travertine and oak coloured timbers..

Pattern on Pattern

This look is about embracing colour and pattern and almost literally anything goes as long as you fully commit. If you love green paint your whole room green then layer with pattern upholstery, florals, stripes, checks it all works.
